Same here, but I suppose all good things come to an end.
My laptop was originally a 8.1 machine before I wiped it it favour of 7.
I've just grabbed a fresh 8.1 image from the microsoft site and reinstalled, and tweaked it a bit so it behaves more like 7, which gives me access to the software I need for another couple of years without having to go offline or upgrade to 10.

Top man. My laptop is finally rid of those stupid 8.1 apps.

Not sure whether to run it on my second computer though. I have a Photoshop action which only runs on an older version of Photoshop running on Win 7. I can't afford to loose it.

Pondering which direction to take. News popped up on my phone today saying they're keeping the free upgrade open for a couple of weeks. I might download and install to another drive anyway. Reading some articles about staying with Win7 but bolstering defences :-)

Thought I'd have a go installing Win10. Easy enough process? uhm. I have a clone of my main drive so disconnected the drive so I was only working with the clone. Downloaded the Win10 creation tool and went through the process. After a good hour, probably more, it was at 27%. it then told me it couldn't install Win10! After about 15 minutes it managed to put the drive back to it's original state so I guess something worked!

I'm going to try a fresh install rather than an upgrade ;-)

It won't upgrade from Win 8, only 8.1. You'll need to do the SP1 upgrade first. There were a few options in that howtogeek site.

You have options to wipe everything or keep your personal files. Yes, mine stayed at 27% for ages, when I decided to wipe everything instead, it sat at 27% again to figure everything out. Ideally you want to use a non Windows browser to create a Win 10 ISO or USB download and have clean version sitting there handy.

To be honest, I was sent through various links and captured all my previous official licence keys before the upgrade...just in case. I remember reading about all sorts of scenarios depending on your original installation method. But 7 Pro should work using the media creation tool. I don't have my browser history anymore to help you. Plus my current fever has wiped out all recent memory!

277 can use the ebay search engine and waste £3.95, but they can't search google for an answer and find the PowerShell program (which does it for free) already installed on your computer!
