Living on Mugs

I'm just wondering does anyone make a full time income from Mug Sublimation, or is it just an add on to another business?

I dont think you could make a full time living on mugs. Profits are low on mugs to do a proper good quality job.
One company I deal with get mugs printed for £2.00 each. I did a 500 for them in summer for a promo, due to the supplier they normally use not making enough in time, so I made a few extra. They commented that my prints were much better and brighter and stood out more. Also that my image were square on the mug and not wonky. You pay for what your get. and my price was more than double what they paid before.

I'm not doing in the hope of a standalone business, more just an add on to my current business.

Yes it works as an add on and it keeps regular people happy.

Sublimation as a whole you can live on, and am sure if you could scale up enough you could do it just on mugs too - but starting out, just on mugs, maybe not.
I think maybe you are asking the wrong question though, as it isn't really the product that sells, it's what you print on it that sells the product - so you are really selling designs - if you have good designs, you'll can do really well, and print them onto way more than just mugs.

I think I'll definitely move into other areas of sublimation in the future.
I'll see how the mugs go and reinvest any profit.

I always looked at mugs as a sideline/add on business, and a way to promote my current business then I saw a few posts about people getting big orders, and being busy with mugs so I thought I'd ask the question.

I just received my kit today, so no doubt I'll be asking more technical questions soon :)

If you're planning on making a living printing mugs then, apart from the obvious, ie. needing big orders, you'd also need equipment to cope with them. For instance, a single mug press just isn't going to cut it. You'd need multiple presses, or an oven, to cut down on manufacturing times.

No plans to try and make a living out of it. It's just a sideline for me, although I probably will buy a Blizzard oven at a future date if I'm fortunate enough to get a big order.
