This is the process done manually. I have an action to automate this, it just goes wrong when I try to automate a batch.

    Hello Justin,
If your action is working fine, just saving each file with the same name, you could try the following which would add a serial number to the file name, keeping all the names unique:
    Capture 123.JPG

    Set Destination to "Folder"
    Check the "override Action"
Add "serial number" to the file name - click on the right-hand dropdown box to pick the level of serial number required. It overwrites whatever was in that box, so you might need to add the extension underneath, depending on what the original settings are.

Hope that is of some help,

    Skye

I find things always go wrong when using batch, so do everything with image processor, so gonna have think how you could do this that way instead

GGGRRR! thought I had this sorted. Followed your instructions Skye, all started running and looked to be working, it was generating all correct images...but no sign of the saved files! How strange!

Just back-tracking everything right back to the beginning, so close yet so far!!

......OK, it's nearly there! lol. Doing everything it should but is saving the wrong image from the 3 open source files, just needs an action change me thinks...hopes ;-)

OK so I've spent some time going around in circles :-) Back to where I started, all is working but the files aren't being saved when I use Batch or Image Processer.

I'm sure my action is correct as I can run it manually on 1 image and it works perfectly. When i try a batch of 3 images they all open, create the smart object etc. and then close but still no save. So, this issue must be in the batch/image processor screen?

Posted below to see if anyone can see any obvious problems.......

    Hello Justin,
I would try a couple of things - separately and/or together.

    - change the "Save" action to "Save as"
    - click on the box between the tick and "save" so that it has the square icon in it. This will force the action into showing you the actual save/save as screen so that you can complete it yourself. This interrupts the action, not quite what you want, but you'll be able to see what/where the file is being saved.

Thanks Skye. The 'save' action I'm using just saves the smart object before inserting it in the main image. I don't have any other save actions I'm just using the batch command to do the saving.

    I see......
I didn't realise there was not a final save in the action. I think I scuppered the batch save by telling you to click the "Save as" override. This only works if there's a "Save as" at the end of the action & stops the batch process from saving the file.
So my other suggestions would be to
    - add an appropriate "save as" at the end of the action, so that the incremental numbering of the file still works.
or - add an "export" and make sure the little box to the left of the "export" in the action is checked so that the the export screen will be shown for each image so that you can add a file name.

Thanks Skye. The action is now saving each completed image but box pops up and I have to rename. I thought by changing the save as.....it would do this for me, something not 'quite' right me thinks :-)
