How are you guys coping over there?

We are starting our first day of total lock down. Cafés, restaurants, clubs, or public meeting places are all closed down. All schools are closed and only open for children of people who must work, such as Doctors, nurses, medical, fire workers etc. Supermarkets, petrol stations, chemists and the "needed" shops are open. People have to stay at least one meter apart and respect each others space. Office workers are told to work from home.
Germany has closed all borders except with Holland ( dont understand why ).
We are waiting for an announcement that payments of rents, mortgage, taxes, electric, gas etc will be put on hold. How that will work is anybodies guess.

I am able to work in my workshop but without public contact. I have no idea how it will work when UPS deliver to me but we will find a way. Ive set up an intercom on my door so I can talk with my customers. Then , if they have a sensible order and I know them, will I let them in. They will have to stay at least a metre away form me. No hand shakes , nothing. Other orders will be by telephone or email.
Scary times ahead. Lets hope this lockdown works and the virus burns itself out.

Realisation is just staring to dawn, since the weekend, of the magnitude of the problem.
Response is a bit shambolic. NHS is so striped of resources that Govt. policy seems to be limited by not crashing the system. Not enough testing - average of 1600 per day vs 20,000 per day in South Korea.

We are about to reap the whirlwind of underinvestment.

I have had numerous events cancel at the weekend, expecting more.

Avowed free market capitalists such as Richard Branson have decided that they would quite like some good old socialist state aid.

Well for me business has ground to a halt.
ebay and Etsy still going on the mug side but my main work is dead.

not sure what’s going to happen when I’m not selling anything or how I’m going to pay bills as I’m self employed.

Yep, my daughter is in the same situation now. My own ebay stuff has dried up but at least I have my state pension to help along. My wife isn't pensionable age yet but receives ESA benefit as she had to finish work early due to ill health.

Not too many cases of Coronavirus here in Northumberland at the moment, thankfully, but we're still taking all the sensible precautions. It's definitely income, or lack of it, that will be forcing people into work regardless of the risks and many others will suffer because of this, but what do you do? Many, many workers are unable to work from home so that advice is falling on deaf ears.

We have family over in Germany. They drove all the way to England to sort out some important legal business. When they arrived in Dover and realised that France and Germany had closed their borders. They decided to get back on the ferry and drive all the way back to Cologne. A wasted journey!

Meanwhile over here, all the 'work shy' are emptying the supermarket shelves this morning.

Thats a shame. But if they live in Germany they must have a German passport or residence certificate to prove they are registered here. Then they could have stayed and done their legal business and driven back to Köln when finished. I now have two passports and if they have lived here for more than 8 years, so will they.

Logobear are retail only, - and its all dried up.
Preparing to hunker down for 3-4months of zero trade, - just hope the other side gets back to 'normal' - thou difficult to see that at the mo!

I got 4 full time staff -all great folk and don't want to make anyone redundant, ...... but at least I might get on top of my house DIY and garden projects!

Curious, - has 'online' biz been effected ?

I know its cruel but if I was you Id make them half time or lay them off. You are responsible for their wages , S/S and pension. It will break you in three months.
Can you ask them to go to the doc and get sick certs so you can register them as sick and get money from the social. Not kosher but you have to survive.
I had a friend who suffered a similar problem with three workers. Three months was all it took and he is now tossing hamburgers. He lost his VW transporter and had to pay their social.

Only 3 cases in County Durham and Darlington.
Pretty much everything dead for us in the shop, on all online platforms, and just getting to the end of been really busy from wholesale orders after Spring Fair. Got a few orders to finish off and ship, but that's it.

Looking at stats for our NOTHS and Etsy, impressions/visits are still as strong as usual, but conversion rate is at zero - customers are looking but not buying.

End of day almost, only had one order today.
Going to have to cross our fingers and pray at this point.
