    PURELY ANECDOTAL POST...

On the business estate where I work there is a fella that runs a business who has been right about every prediction so far...

He predicted the grant increase, he said that it would be an online form and not a letter (despite what was actually written on the gov website) and he now predicts that payments will start to be made on or around the 12th of this month through to the end of.

I consider myself to be quite up to date on business affairs, especially when there is sod all else to do, and everything he said previously I doubted as he always said it long before it was published anywhere else.

So fingers crossed for those that are desperate that this prediction is also correct.

I repeat, it’s purely anecdotal and I have no idea if it is correct or not.

Our local councils (Durham County and Darlington Borough) have already started making payments. Durham is a letter application, and Darlington is an online form where you get the URL in a letter.
I put our Durham application in today, but have lost the letter from Darlington for their URL which isn't advertised or linked to on their website. Have had to email them for instructions - hoping I left the letter at work (was at home today)

I know firms from various councils that have already had the grant paid in...... and a lot more that haven't.

Doesn't make a difference to me as I get feck all, but as mentioned by SG previously, the tax increases to come mean I will be paying it back regardless.

my council website has gone from saying it will pay automatically if you pay rates by DD to saying I need to fill in a form.

Given that I have 'furloughed myself, means i will have to 'work' but it is money for nothing .... thou we will all pay for it later Obvs !

    Keep your peckers up !

I think they all originally said that but then probably soon realised that it was both impractical to send out payments by post and you would get half of them returned due to the incorrect name etc on the cheque.

Even if you have Furloughed yourself you can still work. But only on directorial duties suck as completing forms etc. You can not do marketing etc or anything that effectively would improve the business.

It’s why I have decided not to furlough, no point as I would rather use this time to market and get ahead of the “game”

It all depends on how you have set yourself up...

Basically as a limited company I have a PAYE salary and top up my income by paying myself dividends. I am the owner and sole person in the company

If I Furlough myself then I am entitled to claim back 80% of my PAYE salary, I am not entitled to claim back any of my income from dividends. Personally I think this is very fair because if we are honest with ourselves we traditionally paid ourselves that way to minimise our tax liabilities so why should we be entitled to maximise it now.

If you are on Furlough then technically you are not allowed to work for your company, although doing general administrative duties to keep the company going is acceptable (ie if you need to file your VAT return etc).

As far as I am aware, the 80% claim should be available end of April and is subject to the usual taxes as it is income.

    Hope that helps

Found the form to put our claim in with Darlington ... if anyone wants to see an example of the details they'll likely be asked if they haven't got details yet, this is the Darlington one ... https://selfserve.darlington.gov.uk/...business_grant
They wouldn't tell me this over the phone and had said they'd have to send me a new letter in the next batch, so glad I found it again - all the info I could have filled in without their letter if they'd just told me the URL!

That’s exactly the same information that Denbighshire Council asked for

I finally dug out my rates details to complete the new online form, only to discover that Newcastle council had automatically paid in the grant 1st April.
    Very impressed
