    Mugs - faded bottom edge.

    Hi All,

I know this subject has been done to death, but i cant find anything recent. I am looking for suggestions/help with my mugs having a 'faded' bottom edge.

I'm not a newbie, I have been sublimating for around 5 years now.

    I am using:
    110z mugs fom Signzworld
    Epson L382 series printer
Inks & paper from City ink express
ICC profile from City ink express
Pixmax stand alone mug press (new element)

I am aware of mugs not being straight, but haven't checked for this on this batch yet (1st job in the workshop this morning)
I have altered settings: time, heat & pressure in the press.

The issue is with a full wrap image, and I work to 8.5cm high, 20cm wide. Its the bottom that is the issue, faded on at least 5mil to a centimetre around the bottom.
Where it does print well, it is nice & vibrant, & sharp edges, (top & sides)

This is an issue that I have had come & go over the years. Is it different mug batches?

Any suggestions please? I am looking a possible new mug supplier and would love a sample or 2 to test. I have always found Signzworld mugs ok, and a decent price. I dont mind paying a bit more to solve he issue, But punters are reluctant to pay more than £5 or£6 for a mug, so keeping my costs down is essential.

Any suggestions gratefully taken on board,

    Thx all

Sounding like a broken here but mdp supplies mugs are perfect.
I really shouldn’t jinx it but I haven’t had a single faded mug yet.

Maybe it’s to do with the pressure I use too? but I’m well happy with them.
As for your £5-£6 for a mug I charge £8.99 eBay and £9.99 Etsy and no complaints.
mugs literally fly out the door and if you sell cheap people will look and think “cheap crap”

Buy a decent quality mug and raise the price a little ;)

Wow, i never knew that you can actually earn money with mugs, i just do it as a hobby. The reason i am saying this is that i see alot of online shops that offer mugs with duraglaze for 2.99 Euro. With thos insane prices you can not earn much, at least here in germany.

Maybe your mug press isn't giving out the temperarure it says on the display. Try pressing one at 200°C (as displayed) and see what happens. It's all trial and error I'm afraid, and note that, with a mug press (as opposed to an oven), it's often very difficult to get good prints near the handle and base due to the heat-sinking effects.

Thank you, Just done a print where I pre heated for 20 seconds at 110 degrees and nearly got the perfect effect. I thought I maybe and or possibly would be burning the print by doing 195 at 180-185 seconds. So guess you’re right i.e. trial and error.

will use a digital thermometer and try messing about with the heating element and pressure that’s applied while in the press.

other than that could I ask for some guidance please; Im using Illustrator. Any Sites I can go to to get a near perfect fit for the template? As I am wasting a whole page for one print currently.

    again Thank You

If you want a ready made mug layout template, have a look on Etsy, I've not used them myself, just seen them when browsing around, quick Etsy search below
