Ordered the oven from ceonline as they worked out the cheapest.Where did you buy the oven from in the end?
Those cheap wraps aren't too bad. You get the occasional duff one or the clasp looses its shape, but they are replaceable.
What are the imperfections like on the AA? Is the mug always the same or do they vary from batch to batch?
The AA mugs are ok. The odd mug has pin holes. We end up with an average of a one bad mug per box. Consistent mugs though, been using them for a couple of years now.
That's where I got my oven too. I'll maybe pick up a box of AAs. I settled on the AAA unstamped, but I'm fussy.
Neil Bros yes. The AAA stamped version batch developed a bad taper making them unprintable with wraps.
For people thinking through costings on ovens... When we had enough mug production to use an oven (conventional fan oven, not a tunnel oven), we bought 100 odd wraps direct from China though Ali... could fit 12 mugs on each tray in the oven, and room for 3 trays, so 36 in total at a time.
I then figured for every 36 in the oven, there would be 36 cooling or being unwrapped, and another 36 being prepped, and had two staff working on it. I can't remember how long the time in the oven was though, as a few years back now, and the oven is now doing duty at home in the kitchen!
Thanks for this. Our oven arrived today as did our wraps so will be spending the weekend playing :)For people thinking through costings on ovens... I'm getting fed up of the inconsistency of my halogen and pondering the convection oven. Does it plug into a regular electric socket? Has anyone set up with any extractor fan/vent solutions for when the oven door opens other than opening a window?
Normal 3 pin plug. I haven't noticed any pollution. Only when I burn the wraps off in the oven to clean them. Smashproof box dust is by far my biggest dust polluter.
What is the current thinking on using tabletop catering ovens for mug sublimation? I mentioned the potential cost savings over a Hix tabletop oven several years ago (several £k saving). The consensus was that they wouldn't work because the convection fans would lead to ink vapor staining the bases of the mugs.
What's changed?
No staining here, but as sociagiraffe mentioned on the blizzard thread; if printing full colour top to bottom, the size of the transfer paper is critical.
