Whats the norm for fees?
After PayPal the fees are just extortionate.
I try to get recurring custom to my website but things Don’t always go to plan.
i will try that with the csv too. ;)
Your numbers arent right, it seems to me your ad spend is too high for your sales levels. Get your sales numbers up (easier said than done) what s your conversion rate over say a month? The conversion rate is an imprortant number both for you and the etsy platform.Thought I would give Etsy another go bit with some serious flaws.
How much should I be paying Etsy % is 40-50% about right?
My sales this month are £683 (or $966)
my bill is $406 (or £287 roughly)
I don’t understand Etsy at all and I’m just not feeling it.
I have tried the Etsy ads at a $30 budget to test the water but made one sale of £5.99 so that was a a loss.
Is this about right or am I missing something?

Those fees are way too high!
I've just looked at my last year's monthly data (>finances >payment account, scroll to bottom >see all monthly statements) and apart from a few months where I was wasting money on onsite ads (I'm auto registered for off site ads) my fees hover around the 10% of sales level, which seems about right if you calculate all the fees / VAT.

In your Etsy account go to
Finances > Payment Account > See all monthly statements > generate CSV for Jan 2021 etc.
You'll see the total fees including ads, refunds and gross sales. You will also see what you were left with in the net column.

Here's a quick calculation. Worse case scenario so take the pieces that are relevant to your situation...
Selling price of £10, postage of £2
Etsy listing fee - £0.15 ($0.20)
Etsy selling fee - £0.60 (5%)
Etsypayments fee - £0.68 (4% + £0.20)
Offsite ads - £1.80 (15% - charged if the buyers finds your listing from an offsite ad, some sellers can opt out)
Total fees paid - £3.94 (total of £3.28 above + vat)
Plus you might be buying your postage labels from Etsy - if so add that into the money paid to Etsy
Worst case scenario is
Money collected - £12 (£10 item price + £2 postage)
Money paid out - £5.94 (£3.94 fees + £2 postage)
So it can look like 50% of total income goes to Etsy, though some of it is paying for the postage
Worth a check, Mrteajunkie, to see which fees Etsy is charging you

Only a handful of postage is Etsy everything else goes through Hermes.
I think it’s the offsite advertising that’s killing me.
