    Outdoor signage sublimation

Had a request to do some small signs wondered how durable sublimated metals are outdoors in uv etc anyone had the experience? If it’s a no go I’ll just use our eco solvent printer and stick them on but the idea of sublimating them adds a new twist to our offerings if it works

Using an eco solvent printer will not protect it from UV, you will still need to coat or laminate with something (apologies if I am stating the obvious :-) )

The only sublimation I would consider is the stuff from The Magic Touch which I think has a seven year calendar

TMT are not cheap, but that’s because their products work ;-)

Although I admit I haven’t used the stuff myself I would have no hesitation if the blanks were coming from them. Other suppliers I might be sketchy about this sort of claim.

I have just printed a 2 meter by 1 meter full colour photographic sign for my business neighbour, I used a spray UV protection on it. Check back with me in 2-3 years and I’ll let you know if that works LOL

This is the stuff mentioned above. Very expensive. Never used it, but heard good things.

I tried sublimating onto dibond once - just cos I could...
Forgot about the composite core. It came out like a cheese toasty.

    Outdoor signage sublimation

Yes these two brands are claimed as externally durable, the only ones we have done before were from xpres and used for photos and displayed internally, encountered a chipped edge issue on one of them though probably from my rough handling or maybe first time issues, wondered if these external ones would have similar risks, no good if it comes off the edges really. Yes they are dear aren't they, agree there but if we are selling it we should try it ourselves first I guess, might ask for a sample if it’s available

I've used spray laminate before too Social G, had a frog logo on it, used it on some signs we had made from a suppiler on foamboard which tbh were not that great so it was used to give it some more protection, they still use us for other things so should probably ask how the signs held up long term!

On UV we printed and have sign written our van without using lamination and used same process with car window advertising decals, it’s not faded in a few years, lamination tends to be more helpful as an abrasion resistance add on for printed but will offer some added UV resistance I guess. We aren’t geared up with lamination equipment so don’t/can’t really offer it, well only in spray on form really.

    Appreciate the feedback
