Lay the mugs in their side see if the whole mug touches the surface and roll it to ensure it does the whole way around.
have you tried not taping the base?
I only tape either side of the handle.

Those mugs look almost conical around the base. I doubt you'll ever get reliable top-to-bottom prints using a press.
You may have more luck with an oven and silicone, or thermo-shrink wraps, but personally I'd switch to different mugs, or a different supplier.
I've used a halogen oven before. Just couldn't get to grips with it. Do you have any tips for times and temps?
It's pretty hard to get mugs at the moment. MDP have a decent amount in, and these are the ones I'm using.

I'll check the shape in the am. I think the mugs being curved at the base is the explanation..

Tip 1: Use an oven temperature gauge inside your oven as the temperature dials are usually way off.I've used a halogen oven before. Just couldn't get to grips with it. Do you have any tips for times and temps?
Tip2: Start at around 9 minutes for a single mug and increase accordingly if you are 'cooking' more than one at a time. You need to experiment with this to find the sweet spot.
Tip 3: Temp on thermometer should read 180 to 200 deg C when you place mugs in.
Tip 4: Use your phone stopwatch or another timing device for accurate, repeatable timing. Don't rely on the oven's mechanical timer.
Catch up.
After many failed attempts. I "think" I may of cracked it.
First attempt in the halogen oven. Patchy and faded after 9:30 mins at around 190°
Second attempt at 10:30 mins same again. Scratchy head time..
Third attempt. Turned mug upside down.. 10.30 mins... Same again but opposite way round with fading.
Fourth attempt brain storm.. 4 mins upside down at 200°c then quickly turn over for another 4 mins,
And then turn again for 3 mins. Finish looks passable .
All in all massive ball ache.
