    Wide format Sublimation - Choices?

So we're looking at getting another wide format sublimation printer for our textile work.

Previously we had the Epson F6300 which was excellent. Not many around unfortunatly so little choice.

I started looking at alternatives second hand, Mutoh Valuejet VJ-1604WX is an option but having never owned one I'm unsure on running costs and speed/quality compared to the Epson. We were always pleased with the VJ-628 so not sure how much this shares with that. 628 may also be an option but I don't want to tye into SG inks really and would prefer to start wider format.

Also started looking at the old 9800/9880 machines and wonder if they would be a viable route back in. I can't remember how these compared speed wise but seem to think quality was never a major issue. Inks would no doubt be reasonable. I've message John at Repro Repairs for advice.

If anyone can think of a decent cost effective option I'd appreciate it, or, if you use one of the above please let me know.

We use HPs Stitch S300, got from RA Smart, 64", 4 colour.
Very fast , quality not good enough for hard substrates, user replaceable print heads.

Do you use it for direct to fabric? I assume that has to go through a press to be fixed if so?

We converted an Epson Surecolor T3200 and a T5200 for use with sublimation. They are our daily workhorses. I think both models have been superseded by the T3/5400 now.

Not to best of my knowledge, I have tried replacing bags inside to keep chips but wouldn't accept them.

Call the Epson experts who sell/rent/service printers - as you know we have had two 24" Epson's (7800) from them and still going strong with excellent customer support including onsite support when we need it (paid for of course).

Yes I did message John at Repro, I got a brief response.

How do you find the older Epsons for quality and speed? I appreciate running costs are much lower.

Perhaps call Dave Guest his business partner who is the one on the road all the time and has INCREDIBLE knowledge. He will of course point you to John for prices but if you're just after a chat about what is best then Dave is your man. I will PM you his mobile.
