OKI 8432WT - Reset Drum Count?!?!?

    Hi

I am hoping someone knows the answer to this one.

We've got a OKI8432WT white toner printer. We have been using it extensively with "white off" for some CMYK designs that don't need the white toner. However it seems the machine "counts down" the white drum anyway and so despite the fact that the drum is perfectly okay, it is requiring that I insert a new drum (at a shade under £150, I'd rather not) . Does anyone know how to reset the drum counter in some way. I've googled around and found some instructions but none of them seem to apply to the OKI 8432WT and some seem to involve a rather dubious practice of connecting wires inside the machine. I am wondering if anyone on here has actually reset the drums in their OKI 8432WT successfully? If so, how?

    Thanks
    Gary

Hi Gary, why dont you ask the people where you bought it from? The Magic Touch or the Forever people have great service and should be able to sort out your problem.

    Hi Gary,

I don't think it is possible to reset the drum count, I came across an issue last week where the Oki Pro8432wt was asking for the waste toner to be re-placed, but this model does not have a waste toner, apon checking it out with Oki each image drum has a small waste toner built in, so altough you have not been printing in white the waste tank will be collecting the waste toner, hence the count will go up and it will need replacing at some point.

I would recomend if you are not using the white so much invest in the black toner and drum £185.00 from Forever, this will save you toner and stacks of cash, as you will not be making composite black out of the other 3 colours.

    Hi Roger

    Thanks for this.

Is it an easy process to switch backwards and forwards between CMYW to CMYK?

    Regards

As Roger says, or alternatively just grab a small CMYK OKI and use that for CMYK stuff. The benefit of getting a cheap CMYK OKI is that if you wanted to you could use third party toner fro th elikes of EBAY.

CMYK OKI's are a lot more tolerant of third party toner than their white coutner parts and if you do a lot it will ultimately pay for itself.
