Thanks for feedback. I've a friend whose had an employee quit after getting headaches working with solvent inks even with extractors but I think that was around multiple 76" printers so less of a concern it seems with the smaller BN-20. Oddly, we've never had any issues with sublimation inks. Doors always open though.

If you have employees in a print shop the HSE ( Health and Safety Executive) recommend 5-10 air changes per hour by volume. So a 20 x 20 x 8 ft room ( 86.4 cubic metres) should have extraction of 432 - 864 cubic metres per hour.

UPDATE - Today made decision to only spend a couple of thousand and purchased the Primera LX610 print and cutter. Not knowing if our existing clients will take up the offerings we have planned then investing 2-3 times the amount in the BN-20 wasn't a step I could make just at the moment. Certainly I think the LX610 looks a sound printer going by the examples of our own artwork we have been sent by suppliers. I do think the Roland BN-20 was in fact the overall winner (eat my hat) but need to work up to that. Once the printer arrives and I have some time I might do a video! Ooooooo

Out of interest, how are you getting on with the printer you purchased?

Thinking I might need a dedicated printer for this sort of thing soon

Just missed post. Lx610 printer is amazing for packaging labels and any non-uv custom cut sticker requirements although our use for it is minimal as was bought to enhance our packaging offering but in reality didn't have time to launch offering to customers as so much other work came in. Therefore mainly gathering dust. Might sell if sublimation work continues like it is and stickers no longer a priority :-)

Hi guys, first post - have been reading this thread with interest. I'm new to printing on Rolands/high-end printers and am starting a new biz and have been considering the BN-20 it would seem to suit my needs well. The local printer supplier has recommend a second hand Roland VS300 over the BN-20 though, sighting it as being a more professional machine. Is there a lot of difference?
    thanks in advance

BN20 is incredibly slow. Ink is expensive compared to VS300 due to small 220ml carts. If you get some warranty I would recommend the second hand machine unless you only want to do short runs of small stickers.

    220ml carts?
I use the 440ml in mine.

But yes I agree slow is an understatement.
I printed a banner yesterday which was 480mm x 1400mm and it took 45mins to print.
seems a tad excessive to me but If I was choosing a printer now I would not go for a bn-20 again.
