Mug quality question xpres - just a bad box? (lots of wonky wobbly mugs)

    Hi,

I usually use mdp 11oz having previously used subliblanks.

I decided to try xpres 5013 10oz and love the coating the problem is out of the 20 I've tried so far 9 have been very wonky heavily tapered to the extent even at light pressure in a cold press the paper will crease and smudge the print.

Rolling them on the table shows at certain points they middle to the top is way off which is causing the issue. Some have really long tapers on the bottom as well. I've played round with heavier taping etc but nothing will work they are just too uneven.

For info I use 2 press the mdp one and a gs203 the paper is ink experts versa and subliblanks mug paper sometimes.

Has anyone who uses xpres mugs had this issue before I will raise a ticket but wanted to see if this is a common problem with these and how expres are in general with replacing wonky mugs. The results on the good mugs have been excellent so I'm keen to start using these.

Thanks for your help this forum has been a life saver the last few months!

    Cheers,

    Paul

We've used thousands of XP5013 over the last few years and have no issues at all. That said, we do print in an oven with wraps so slight tapers aren't an issue. Just looking at our stock here and I can't see any particularly bad tapers. If you buy a pallet they supply a slightly inferior mug, I'd be speaking to them about this asap if I were you.

Thanks for the reply Justin I’ll get onto them and get it sorted because the mugs are coming out great with their coating.

They have got big problems right now with their mugs. Recent batches have been from a different manufacturer due to a large increase from their old supplier. Not sure how their standard 10oz is holding up as we use their other version. Got a couple of pallets of faulties. In fairness to Xpres, they are trying to keep the price down for their customers bu have got caught out a few times with coating and mug quality.

Thanks for the info, the quality of the box of mugs is a little ropey quite bad shaped on a few and a few wee imperfections. I only print front and back not full coverage so can get away with it on all but say 20% of them. The overall quality of the print is just brighter and sharper than I’ve had on other mugs in the past so will persevere with them.

Yes price went up on the XP5013, quality wise I've not seen much if any difference so I assume it's just the pallet orders that are affected.

We’ve had 5 pallets of XP5013’s recently and I have to say, while the coating is the best I’ve seen, the quality of the mugs is shocking for a premium mug.

What I will say is Xpres have been great about the issues and have credited back any mugs we’ve been unable to use. They’ve also promised to take the feedback back to their manufacturer so I can only hope the quality improves.

The issues we’ve found are more to do with chips around the bottoms of the mugs. The chips have been glazed over so have been done during the manufacturing process.

Out of our first pallet, we had 6 boxes worth of mugs with chips etc.

Have I read that right that when buying pallets, xpres send you slightly inferior mugs intentionally?

I have around 6 mugs from one box with ink under the coating!
some with red ink and others with black.

The 10-12 boxes I have used recently have been fine otherwise.
I certainly prefer these over the mdp mugs just wish I used them Sooner.

the print is more crisp and clear and colours more vibrant than any other mug I have ever used.

I asked one of my employees what he thought of the difference in print and he said it was like switching to HD. I must say he’s right, the coating is phenomenal.
