    Wall Vinyl

    Morning all,

I've been asked to provide a couple of Vinyl's for a client, the first one is for a kitchen wall decal quite wide so I'm guessing a roll, the other is for a wheelie bin.
What Vinyl would you suggest I use and the best place to get it?

    Many thanks,
    Chet

Is it printed decals or just a plain colour?

Printed I use a removable vinyl as the adhesive is more forgiving than standard printable stuff.

if it’s just a plain colour then I use a dedicated wall art vinyl.
mdp stock it and I was sent a roll of blue in error a few years back so I tested it out and it’s good stuff.

Wheelie bin stuff I would just use standard sign vinyl like oracal but again depends if printed.

It's easy to get caught out with wall art as you need to know what the wall is painted with and 99% of customers do not know.

The reason I say this is because a wall is normally painted with a matt emulsion and no-one can tell what brand was used simply by looking at it.

Until a few years back it was normal to use a matt finish (to avoid reflections) specialist wall vinyl which had an adhesive which could be removed from the wall without damaging the surface.

Then new "eco" regulations came in which changed the chemical makeup of the paint and the proper wall vinyl will not stay adhered to it.

The only real answer is to use a high tack adhesive standard vinyl (still choose a matt finish though) which may, unfortunately, damage the wall on removal.

Wheelie bins are "low energy" plastic and again high tack vinyls are best.

Recommendations of vinyl will depend on whether it's cut vinyl or printed and the size of the cutter/printer you have.

Wheelie bins are a relatively flat surface so most sign vinyls will be ok. The colour of the bin might make cheap lighter colour vinyls look dull. If printing then use a vinyl with grey adhesive to improve opacity.

Wall art can be a bit of a pain. I did some in the workshop, applied to painted plasterboard. You need to be very precise when applying the vinyl. It will stuck to the paint alright, but if you need to reposition it the paint came of the back of the vinyl and you will need to recut and repaint the wall.

Make your client aware that in a kitchen humidity and grease will effect the life of the product.

I started out cutting wall vinyl I used Avery 500 monomeric matt vinyl, good price and easier to weed.
