Is the Wasatch SoftRIP required to print with a VJ628 printer?

Hi, I've had a VJ628 printer sitting around (switched on) for a long time and never got around to putting it to use. The sawgrass website has the Wasatch RIP listed as a system minimum requirement. My question is, do I need to get this software to use the printer or can it be used just using photoshop and sawgrass print manager?

Yes, Wasatch SoftRIP is generally required to print with the Mimaki VJ628 printer. This RIP (Raster Image Processor) software is designed to manage color profiles, optimize ink usage, and control complex printing workflows, especially for wide-format printers like the VJ628. While you might find other RIP software that supports the VJ628, Wasatch SoftRIP is often recommended because it's tailored for color accuracy and efficiency with this specific printer.
Without a RIP software like Wasatch SoftRIP, you would struggle with color management and print optimization, leading to less efficient and lower-quality results.

I 'think' I still have a licensed copy of Wasatch from when I sold my VJ628 printers and one of the buyers didn't want it....I'll have a look.

Thanks for the info. I have tried the Sawgrass Print Utility which supports the VJ628 printer and it seems to work OK colour wise so I'm confused what the RIP does that the print utility doesn't. My only issue with the printed products is a kind of graininess (I was going start another post about it) possibly a dithering issue which we also see using the print utility software on our other A4 sawgrass printers. Sawgrass print manager doesn't do this but is now unsupported I think and never has worked with the VJ628.
