Orca coating coming off after a few months!

    Hi,

Has anyone else had complaints about the Orca coating coming off mugs after a few months?

(Edited to add image as server error is now fixed.)

Where did you buy the mugs? Sometimes, poor dishwasher loading can destroy the coating.

Bought from MDP. The coating looks like it's mostly coming off in sheets from the top. I'd expect chunks missing from random places if it was getting knocked around in the dishwasher.

We've had this recently as well. We don't normally farm out mug printing, but we had a massive job earlier this year so I outsourced part of it. They used Orca mugs and we had one returned within weeks with the coating peeling off in big chunks. There were hundreds of them too, so I'm half expecting more to come back.

Hmm. Well, at least they didn't all come back. I'm sort of relieved it's just one from a batch of hundreds (touch wood!). Did you mention it to your supplier?

We stopped saying these were dishwasher safe a while ago from MDP and I presume this damage was down to that.

Interesting. What sort of damage were you seeing? Similar to the photo with it peeling off in sheets, or something else?

I too have had a couple of reports of destroyed coating with MDP mugs. Refunded the customer, but chalked it off to bad dishwasher loading. Concerning!

Not to mention the scores of smashed mugs being delivered!

How straight are Xpres 11oz orca mugs at present?

Yes, that is a little concerning. Last time I ordered (quite a while ago - we don't sell that many) they'd wrapped the mugs in huge amounts of bubble wrap to stop them smashing. I haven't tried Xpres mugs as I still have plenty from MDP. I didn't realise there was a tapering issue with those. Yikes!

We ordered a couple of boxes of 11oz from Xpres as 5013 were out of stock. We couldn't get a decent print onto any of them and ended up returning for a full refund. Xpres are saying it sounds like the mugs weren't even coated!
