Classic Car Show - What Sells?

May 8th there's a big classic car show right on our doorstep - we've got to do it!

So, what sells? What should we prepare/make & take with us? As most of you know, we can produce most things from cut & printed vinyl for stickers or heat press to garments. We can do embroidery and direct to garment printing (could take the DTG printer) and all the other usual stuff.

    Cheers

I manned a stand for a former employer a few years back, this was for a classic car show. Biggest seller for us were tees/polos with the car show logo printed...single colour vinyl. Car stickers with the same logo also sold very well. The 'boss' had this great idea to sell polos with car logos on, order only...despite my copyright concerns. We had one enquiry from a kid who wanted one there and then....otherwise nothing.

I had some enamel badges made up and we sold bucket loads, the promotional items would also be great if you have a logo to work with but be careful about dating things in case they don't sell!

These shows can be huge if you get the right products as you have a massive target market coming right to your door! Get yourself a great position to pitch the stall!

have a look at the traders already booked, and research who will be there, some of the owners clubs are very funny about who uses their logo. at an American car show once, a guy had 100's of mugs printed up with old car magazine fronts from the 50's & 60's and he had trading standards called on him and was asked to go home - one of the other traders who sold magazines called them - go figure ??

i'd say mugs with cars on
esp if you can do them while they wait
cos you can then put their particular car on and a name as lots of us classic buffs name our cars :)

i do a morris minor one and keep thinking i should promote it more

make sure your public liability insurance is up to date and covers you for outisde events, you also need good H&S proceedures if you are planning on doing stuff on site.

    go retro John!

MK 1 & 2 Escorts, especially RS2000 Rally stuff. Cossack, Eaton Yale, Paddy Hopkirk, Colin McRae (google them). Monty Carlo Rally designs. Mini (as in the car) designs. VW Camper designs.
Audi, Cosworth etc. Vectorize or seriously photoshop the images to make them retro so that TS cant finger you!

Don't go "My other car is a Porsche" stylee with tee's, naff! I wouldnt offer logos either unless they're defunkt manufacturers out of business 50 years ago - but use if they're retro.

I also wouldnt offer vinyl stickers of manufactures like Subaru etc. Even though its so easy to get vectors of the stuff, I would leave alone...*cough* unless some spotty 18 year old is asking lol :)

It might be an idea to plan well in advance and instead of making a load of t shirts pre-event, get a portable transformer and make the tshirts on-site (tshirt press). The pre-printing of the designs on vinyl will be pennies compared to having 20 tshirts pre-printed that dont sell. Thats what I would do, and of course there's nothing better than a customer walking away with a purchase they like rather than having to wait a week for you to make it and send it!? yes/no?

    Good luck
    dave
