Angry My email account WAS HACKED into this morning!

Hopefully this message will get to everyone that was sent a message this morning from my e-mail address?

As I walked into work this morning I noticed that my Yahoo email account was sending emails to contacts in my address book. Or rather I had emails back from people who had been sent an email ................. but there was nothing in my sent box??? (strange!)

Luckily, (if this is luck) I managed to log in as this was happening and I think only 20ish people were sent an email (update - a lot more emails were sent than I first thought).

Anyway, I don't know how this has happened as I am very IT Literate and am careful about everything, but it still did and someone informed me that one of the links that was sent in an email to them contained a very nasty virus! SO PLEASE BE CAREFUL CLICKING ON ANY LINKS (incidently, the link mentioned images of Bin Ladens Body to hopefully get a response to click on it!).

I apologise for any upset or inconvenience this may have caused to anyone getting an email and hopefully this is now resolved (all passwords reset). Let's face it, it doesn't matter how secure you think you may be - those 'horrible hackers' will still find a way through (look at the PlayStation network!).

Once again, sincere apologies to anyone that got an email.

    Kindest regards to all

    Adam

I just deleted it so no harm done.

We had something silimar a year or so ago on our hotmail account which sent emails to our contacts that were held and we tracked this down to something we did (or one of the family did!) in FaceBook. Can't remember what it was now, but might be worth changing your password on FaceBook as well if you use it.

    Thanks Martin,

I have since found out that it was a 'worm' that infiltrated a few thousand email accounts this morning from Denmark! Lucky me, I don't get any numbers up on the lottery but get one of these damn things!

I have changed my passwords for everything today .................. just to make sure, but doesn't it just Pi$$ you off!

Hi Paul, there was no worm on my PC - it was a worm that hacked into various email accounts online! I have since found out it happened at 8:44 this morning via Yahoo Mobile email in Denmark!

My PC is safe (it's like fort knox anyway) but like anything - it's best to be sure.

I reset my password via the yahoo settings, if you cant get in then use your security questions.

After that I contacted Yahoo email on their live chat to make sure all was ok.

Its worth paying the £20 to register MalwareBytes and enabling its realtime scanning.
