Why do I do it ............... ! (weeding)

    So,

after chatting to a guy that is doing a sponsored event I said I could come up with a unique (1 colour) design for him. The design has a breast logo and a print on the back of the t-shirt (in vinyl/flex).

I designed the image in photoshop and sent it to him - he was well happy and from two shirts he went to 12 t-shirts ............... great I thought!

So, all morning (off and on) I have been weeding these designs and just to give you an idea the breast logo has over 50 letters, with a mountain and it sits in an area less than 95mm by 95mm! Some of the bits of vinyl I have weeded measure 1mm thick!

Great idea - but my eyes are bleeding now!

it's removing all the little bits of vinyl that you don't want on the T
ie the bit in an 'e' or a 'p' etc

    Yeah, as Steve says.

You have a sheet of vinyl and cut out your design with a cutter, this leaves you your design plus the bits you don't want.

You remove the bits you don't want (weed out) leaving the design to print.

The video below gives you the idea (first one I found on youtube) and this is sign vinyl but gives you the idea ............... bear in mind some of the bits I had to leave were only 1mm in width!

lol kool vid esp at the end :O
he makes it look so easy though and i suppose it is but it can also be a real pain as Adam says and your eyes go cross eyed and your fingers go numb.
for most of the stuff you have to use a little stick type thing with a needle in the end to be able to pick at the waste vinyl.

so after an hour or so you get cramp and all sorts but the end result is worth it :)

    adam, i am currently doing
120 celtic knots of a good level of intricacy, along with a slogan to go with them
15 in minature for kids t shirts
20 nice big fat motorbikes - redrawn by me to make weeding as easy as poss with all the wording for the company, sleeves, chest and back.
10 sets for a landscape gardeneing company including a tree,

and i have not even started on replacing stock sold at recent events - i use a big bag from one of the shows to weed into, and a nice bit of peeled sticky vinyl to take off the annoying little bits that stick with static when weeded.

i am a finger nail weeder, i cant get on with weeding tools
