    Opinions

    Hi all,
May I have your opinions on this mug press please.
    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...=STRK:MEDWX:IT
I bid on it for 2 reasons. I want a spare and it is local so I can pick it up, save the £15 postage and have the half case of mugs as a bonus.
It certainally looks a substantial piece of kit but I cant find much info about it.
    What is the glazing unit?
Surely a sub mug is very shiny anyway.? Mine are.
I am a little suspicious as there were only 2 bidders, me and one other.
Bidder 1 offered £100 and I offered a max of £137.06. It went for £139.06. That rings bells to me.
Bidder 1 went £2 more than me then decide not to go for it.
I am sure people know what I mean. It is a great way to find peoples top price and then offer the second chance.
I should reply I will offer £2 above bidder ones top bid?
At the end of the day I can buy this for £137.06 and it looks a nice press.
    Opinions please

    BR

It doesn't look like shill bidding which is what I think you are referring to.

The bidding started at £100, bidder 1 bid a maximum of £113, then you bid, with a maximum of £137.06, bidder 1 then came back and bid again, which put it to £139.06 which is one bid increment above your highest bid.

Bid increments vary dependant on the bid price, have a look at this link

    http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/buy/bid-increments.html

As to the press, I'll leave that up to one of the experts

Oops, also meant to say, bidder 1s second bid might have been a lot more than what they won it for

I've heard of Hix, but don't know who stocks these. Only 1 concern would be the availability of spare heat blankets.

    Hi Kaz

I see what you mean. it still looks a bit fishy to me?

One other thing, what about spare parts?

If I bought it how difficult would it be to get spare blankets etc? Would they have to come from the USA?

I recently had/chose to export a lens from the USA ( It was so much cheaper at first glance) and was hit with 40 odd pound Vat from UPS and an export charge on top of that.
Worked out more than If i had gone to jessops up the Bullring.
I need to take all this kind of thing into account.

    Hi Martin
You replied as I was writing.

I too would like to know about spares.
If you dont know, what chance do i have?

Thanks for that, you may have just made my mind up.

    Tony

I must say though it looks a very nice press.

    Thanks thus far

    BR

It happens all the time on ebay, people bid, then don't want it. I've had to do second chance offeres a few times.

If you think it's a bit suss looking, you don't need to accept the SCO and can go for something else

I have decided not to go for it.

First reason I am suss about the second chance.
Kaz, I was once had for a fish tank that went to my limit and I got the second chance.
    How do i know?
The lads told me and laughed as they drove off after I met them in a service station to collect half way.
    The tank was cracked also.
The account was negged by many after me.
Paypal no help as I paid on collection.
It all seems too similar to me.
No offence Kaz, I am sure there are times when second chances are a good thing.
Like you righly say, I do think it may be suss and I will look for something else.
Thanks for your help on this.
    Secondly:
As Martin says there is a question of spares.
No point in having a nice machine one cannot get replacements for?
    Thirdly:
I found out a bit the glazing extra.
    It quotes:
Gives Laser transfers the sublimated "look" that is so desired
Now that to me rings like when Stitch up bought the TMT HTP 616 and it was only suitable for toners.
I think perhaps the press is only for toners and that is why it needs a glazing unit to Give Laser transfers the sublimated "look" that is so desired
    Its a minefield out there!

I will carry on with what i have for now.

The highest bidder has only bid on that sellers items and one from another seller in the last 30 days.

I've even taken a look at the sellers feedback, and the highest bidders ID doesn't show at all.

But I think it's probably for the best not to go for it if you're not happy.

You could add the sellers ID to your favourite sellers list and see what happens when they relist it

If its only for a spare what's the point in buying second hand for that price.
You can get a brand new one at coralgraph / lovecut / ebay for under £120.00 which would include a guarantee.

    Thanks for the advice Kaz
    Points taken and appreciated.

    John G
I was just looking and it looked like a quality piece of equipment.
I know it i jut for spare, but, daft I know, I like quality.

    I have found out more.

You can use the press to do sub or lazer prints.
Bit like my TS I have now.

The Glazing unit makes the toner look like a sub print.

So sub ink results on toner ink.
    More profit?

    As I have a lazer printer, I am re-considering.
    Let you know.

    BR
