Post Advice sought on all things dye sub

    Hi all,
Dye sublimation is an avenue I'm looking to go down, but I'm a bit confused as to the printer aspect, basically I have three printers on is a HP1510 and the other two are Epson - R285 and an 9880. Although I don't really want to use the 9880 at this stage for doing dye sub stuff so I had got in touch with Epson online chat support and the message I got was -
Agent: we do not support the use of sublimation inks." "We can not guarantee them to work."
I see from a post earlier that the R285 can indeed print in a dye sub capacity but what about the HP1510 and what inks would be compatible with either.

Also with the need for a mug press etc. has anyone tested or done business with Sublimagic.co.uk and their 10 in 1 combomagic. Any recommendation would be greatly appreciated, I have also checked out BMS or Printer Cartridges & Supplies so any advice on their 8 in 1 combo presses or the DF14 and DF1 plus consumable products.

As I say any advice, recommendation and help would be greatly appreciated.

    Many thanks
    Hoffman Fisher

    Hiya

I've got the sublimagic 10 in 1 set up, I've also got a 38x38 flat bed press as the sublimagic one is approx A5 size, which isn't much use to me for doing A4 and A3 pressing. I also had to wait a full 28 days to get it (that wee snippet is hidden at the bottom of their T&Cs page) as it was coming from China. So far I've not had any problems with it, having said that, only had it a few weeks and not really done much pressing yet, trying to get my head round other things just now.

Cheers Kaz, will check it out.
Yeah that's unfortunate about the A5 plate, I would have been hoping for A4 size.

You won't be able to use the HP printer with sublimation inks as to print sublimation you need the ink to pass through a printhead that doesn't introduce any heat during the printing process. The HP printers use the liquid ink to cool the printhead during printing so this rules the HP printers out.

Other's here can probably post back there own comments about the presses we offer. I believe they are all positive, but I think it would be better if you had some comments from users of these presses rather than me say how good they are - I might be accused of being biased :)

Re: Advice sought on all things dye sub

Thanks Martin, I had seen an earlier post from you about the Epson R285 and I see on your website that you stock inks for the R265 which I know are compatible but would it be correct to assume that based on the content of your website that Jet Tec inks are dye sublimation inks?

    Cheers

Jet Tec inks are dye sublimation inks?
Sadly not I'm afraid. We have several "departments" to our business and the JetTec range are standard compatible ink cartridges with normal inks inside them. These are nothing to do with sublimation.

Oh dear! Perhaps then, could you recommend what sublimation inks would be compatible with the R285 if indeed the R285 can do dye sub work?

    Think you will find Martin's answer about the R285 at this link;

Re: Advice sought on all things dye sub

OK! I miss read that article first time round, so the R285 is not suitable for dye sub.... I'll either have to use the epson 9880 or purchase a smaller printer that does dye sub.

    Cheers for the assistance.
