Using acrylic steps might give you a good display......something like this maybe?

Hum, they do look good.
For selling at craft fairs I use a couple of stacking shoe racks from Jysk (http://jysk.co.uk/750/759/3609647/a/catalog) sure you can get similar from lots of places. Not the most elegant solution, but very usable.
