    Epson 1520 A3 printer - best use

    Hi,
Not being someone to look a gift horse in the mouth I have gratefully accepted an old Epson 1520 A3 printer that was being thrown out. Having done a fair bit of research I have determined that it uses dye based inks as OEM and the transition between dye and pigment is not always possible due to the way in which different printers work. My questions are as follows:
Has anyone successfully used sublimation ink in one of these? If so, how?
Or can this be used with pigment inks and if so, would it be via a ciss?
I don't want to waste a perfectly functional printer so if I can either use it for dye sub work or T shirt transfer work I shall be smiling :)
    Thank you
    Ali

We did have an old 3000 (17"), which I think is/was the same era as the 1520. We loaded it with refill carts and sublimation ink, and away we went. The print quality was OK for only a four colour printer, but the things that let it down were that the print speed was incredibly slow, it didn't feed the paper straight which got messy on long metre length runs, its roll feed attachment was useless, and the menu system for changing settings was a laborious task of printing out settings sheets, and changing lights with the control panel buttons, and then printing off more settings sheets. It was nice as a first move into large format, but it was only a matter of weeks before we decided to replace it with a 4000, which was a huge improvment.

Hi Tim, Thanks for that info which is certainly food for thought. The printer won't be much use as it is (as I use pigment ink for transfers rather than dye ink) but if I can at least try sub ink I have at least someone else's previous experiences to build on! The printer may be a white elephant but as I said before I don't like to waste anything, so I do appreciate your reply - thank you :) I'll let you know how I get on!

If you manage to find either a ciss or refillable cartridges please post where from. I have a 1520 taking up shelf space and was getting ready to dump it.
