Wanting a dual platen automatic - any suggestions

    Hi All

So I have sort of started a contract that will last three years and I its turning out to be more than I anticipated. So I am looking for ways to speed up the production and think that a dual platen automatic will help.

The only one I have seen is one sold by Grafityp which is a SEFA. I am sure its a pretty good machine but am wondering what others are out there and if anyone has had experience of one.

It only needs to be A4 in size so not looking at anything mega.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

It's not really mega bucks for a pro level press though.
I am intrigued to ask why you're wanting a double A4 press instead of a larger single head press?

Anything over a tenner is megabucks to me ;o)

I cant really answer for our tall friend but I am guessing that the job he has is to press a transfer that is less than A4 in size and he doesn't want to sacrifice more space than necessary - of course I may be completely wrong - wouldn't be the first or the last time ;o)

That said if its a 3 year contract the difference in power consumption between an A4 and a larger, ie A3plus press would be considerable.

my point was, that on an A3 press you can do two A4 sized items in one pressing, thus negating the need for a dual head A4 machine, or on an A2 press, you could do four at once (etc)
Depends on what the contract is for, what products, and how many need producing per day (and by how many people working the production line)

I believe it would be garment based so any larger than the print area would be excess.

I was looking at the carousel heat press at the last P&P if you are feeling flush Simon. You could make us all jealous as well.

    Hi Guys

    In answer to your question(s)

I have in mind one product for this heat press which is hi viz vests. They are printed on the front (two positions) and the back, every one is personalised and it will be a minimum of 400 per week (probably more), At the moment I am using my beta adkins which although good, is simply not fast enough (as two positions take 1 minute to press and the third is two presses of 10 seconds each), there is also about 30-40 seconds when changing the vests over, and lastly, user fatigue is a big consideration when there could be 1000 of these to get done within a couple of days. Hence the requirement of a double platen.

I only want A4 because with these items you can not print bigger than A4 (in general) as the silver strips get in the way. You can not print more than 1 at a time on the press for various reasons (flatness of the garment, ghosting when removing etc etc), and also, space is getting to be a bit of a problem which is probably the most important thing.

I have see a dual platen semi automatic sold by Adkins which I am tempted by (Omega 500), everything is auto except the movement of the heat plate. It might be a good choice as I obviously know the brand.

The SEFA one I saw is £3700 plus VAT, The Adkins is about £1700 plus VAT, so big difference in price but it is not 100% auto though.

10 years ago I lived in Spain and made my living pressing transfers onto t-shirts. I had two presses running side by side and was able to press about 300 t-shirts in an afternoon.
You just need to get the timing right and keep at it and it should be faster that a dual platten press.

I thought about having two presses but I just can not see it working as well as a dual platen, can't explain why its just a case that I do not see it.

Also, the semi auto decent single presses are almost as much as the adkins dual

The carousel one looks good but requires two people for maximum output.

Have to be honest, don't really fancy talking to the same person all day everyday :-)
