Cleaning Silicon Mug Wraps

Hi Guys

Anyone know how to clean silicon mug wraps?

I did a job in the oven yesterday which was for mugs with black print top to bottom. Mugs looked great, but this morning I need to crack on with some more mugs that have a white background. Only problem is that the ink from yesterday is still on the silicon and when heating it turns into a gas and then moves to the mug.... ouch

Any help would be great

Hi Simon,

Not sure how to remove it, but maybe putting a bit of greaseproof or paper between the wrap and mug might work?

Tried a few things and they all work to a degree, but as the ink turns into a gas it creeps in everywhere so ideally I would like to simply remove it (although I have a feeling this will not be possible.

I have them in the oven right now with the vacuum running, this is removing quite a bit of it so fingers crossed.

Is this why i have suddenly started to get a slight hue to the areas of a mug not covered by paper? ie by the handle? Only just noticed as im currently doing some white mugs with just a logo and you can see a line where the paper ends

Without knowing your full set up WE-PRINT I can not say for sure, but I am about 95% certain that is why.

As we all know, dye sub ink turns to a gas when heated. This is fine when pressure is applied because the gas has no where to go. I was printing a large black panel that bleeds on the top and bottom. The exposed dye sub ink turned into a gas and then found its way on to the silicon. School boy error on my part to be honest as I knew exactly what I had done as soon as I printed the first white background mug this morning.

I have now got them to a relatively clean state by putting them in my 3D machine (which doubles as an oven), I put the temperature up to 400 degrees f and then I turned the vacuum on. As the vacuum pipe is not connected to anything it simply sucked the air out of the oven and also the gassy ink.

So try putting the wraps in the oven without the tray and vacuum? How long?
Sounds right. My hue is blue and just did some blue mugs

Same set up as me for 3D.

Turn heating on (mine was on 400F) and put wraps inside with the vacuum on (the pipe just lays on the base of the oven). I had mine in there for a few hours, but the green wraps were pretty black. Once an hour I printed a mug to see if it disappeared and eventually it did.

I would suggest a minimum of a couple of hours, print a mug and see.

I bought a stack of wraps some time ago and they were filthy. Put them in the oven and cooked them, then dishwasher, then cooked again...that worked a treat. My oven runs at 210 degrees and it would have been 30 mins.

Can't promise anything.....just saying..

now i noticed is coz my green wraps

has anyone had problems mug wraps snapping or tearing ? I reacently bought a mini 3d oven and the wraps dont last very long. I appreciate that they are consumable and wont last for ever but would have thought the would survive more than half a dozen uses
