    Ink Shelf life

Hi, i'm just thinking about dipping my toe into mug printing, I don't expect to have a high turn over to begin with. I've read some other posts mentioning the ink has a fairly short shelf life. I was wondering if printing off the images and storing them in a light tight box, would that extend the life of the ink ? This factored in with the cost of ink is holding me back from jumping as I'm not sure if I could get the most from the ink before in expires. I might have to get them printed somewhere else, possibly not viable for me to do it myself. Any advice would be welcome.

I guess the shelf life put onto inks is a little on the cautious side, I've run a 3110 with out of date inks and it's been fine but obviously you could run into warranty issues. It is possible to get inks with 12-18 month shelf lives but again you might not use within this time.

I'd be happy to help you out printing and mailing as and when you need them if this gets you going, until you're up to the point where you know you can justify the expense etc.

    Hi Justin,

Sorry for slow reply. I'm weighing up my options. I'm looking at bone china mugs as from some feedback these would seem to be more popular, especially with craft retail outlets. For some reason these seem to be in short supply at the moment. I now think i'll take the jump into doing it myself, this for me seems the better option as I can do shorter runs of certain images. Although I'am now undecided whether to go for mug press or oven :-)

    Thanks again

    John

bone china often seems to be in short supply - or at least it does whenever I want a box :o(
