Colour Issues with Epson ET2710

• I’m using Titan paper
• Sublisplash ICC for Epson EcoTank ET 2710 installed
• Printing from Gimp on Windows PC
• Printing mainly on ceramic tiles.
• Printer is printing well on paper ( good quality not good colour )

Problems include :- Blacks now print brown ( at all temperatures and times, the brown tone is not due to overheating as is often the case), the overall colour balance seems red heavy and blues are tending towards green. I'm printing with artwork files that I've had for years and have previously printed perfectly.

In March this year I wrote to (InkExpress who sold me my printer) because all my colours were suddenly off, as described above. I use Photoshop on a Mac, running Catalina, and they, along with someone at Sublisplash, said the problem was the Mac no longer allowing colour management. SO, I ended up getting another laptop (Windows) which didn't fix things, at which point everyone started blaming Photoshop and suggested I used Gimp!!!
Anyway, it kind of worked, although I still wasn't 100% happy. Now (after a pause due to a house and studio move) it's all wrong again and I'm about ready to give up.
I've double checked all my settings and they look right so what is going on!?
Someone Please help, I'm tired of scouring the internet and wasting materials!

Just to confirm, you are using SubliSplash inks and profile?

How is your nozzle check? How old are the inks?

At the risk of stating the obvious, I always check basic settings, profile, photoshop etc. 3 times...but then I usually miss something first time lol

Hi Justin, yes Sublisplash inks with the downloaded icc profile from their website. The nozzle check is perfect, I ran a LOT of head cleaning cycles after moving house and the print on paper is fine. . The inks are very slightly out of date but I was assured by people at Ink Express that this was very unlikely to cause any problems.
At this stage I've spent too much to risk investing in more ink as the issue definitely started when Mac Catalina became incompatible with the ICC colour correction stuff.

I briefly sorted it when I switched to using a windows laptop running GIMP but now that has gone wrong too! It can't be that hard can it? are other people having similar issues?

I used to run a larger format 8 colour printer with Sawgrass inks, print was superb but when they went out of date it felt like almost to the exact date there was a noticable colour shift. Never seen this with any other printer or inkset but it proved it can happen very quickly, hence my question about the dates.

I'd be looking to ensure these were replaced before looking any deeper as it would certainly make sense.

I do agree, it is generally very unlikley, you'll hear of folk running inks well past their use by date but certain inks can cause issues.

I've been looking back at all my correspondence with Sian at Ink Express and the guy in the USA from Sublisplash and they both blamed it on the colour correction/ICC/ compatibility issues which is why I swapped my Mac/Photoshop set up for Windows/Gimp. Ink Experts even have a huge disclaimer now saying not compatible with Apple products! My problem is I don't want to throw another pile of money at it if its another software issue due to a system update or something. I just can't believe I'm the only one this is happening to!

You say your prints are 'red heavy' but I'd say they are lacking in cyan. If you're sure the cyan nozzle check is ok then try printing juat a rectangle of pure cyan (or smear some cyan on the paper with your finger) and press that onto an item.
