Sublicotton

So got the 3110 set up and got some sublicotton paper and I have to say I'm very impressed.
However... Went to print a second design today and the result wasn't what I was expecting.

First press... Not bad



Second... Looks raised... Too much powder???



And how can I stop these little bits?

Hi. Silly question as we have only been told about this sublicotton from Scott at BMS but do you reuse the same powder each time? Could it be that the print was still wet, powder got coated but was then tipped back into the tray and ruined the next one? Only a guess.

That's a really good point! I didn't think about that!!! I think from what I've read you use the left over again, maybe not!

I did some tests with sublicotton with varying results. Some people print through Powerdriver but when I did I found that this seemed to throw too much ink onto the paper and my result was similar to yours with black dots especially around solid text. I tried using the sublicotton profile but couldn't get decent image quality. I will have another play in due course. I was using a Ricoh 7100 as I want to print A3 designs, if I ever get sorted. Has anyone had success with this system and if so what printer settings do you use?

First was ok for me using the ICC but not the second

Just double checked the instructions and it says save the excess to be reused. I'm not sure why it was so poor.

I think Scott is back at BMS next week for accurate advice. My only "guess" is that perhaps the procedure of applying the powder needs to be less rigorous so any powder that sticks to the print doesn't get thrown off. There must be someone on this forum though that also uses it.

Yes you reuse the powder. The powder only sticks to the wet ink so the rest of the powder is reused.
