Hello,
Just after a bit of advice from complete beginner. Just researching equipment to set up small t-shirt/clothing / mug etc. I've seen Ricoh SG3110DN advertised for sale locally, but some threads when I was researching suggested these were being discontinued. The item for sale x 2 are brand new, offered at £60 each. Are these worth buying for beginners set up ?

I have one and it runs perfectly with Sublisplash inks.
But normally they are not so cheap so ask yourself why. Yes they are being discontinued but not normally sold cheaply. We can still buy them in Germany at full price.

I too would question the price, at £60 each for a supposedly brand new 3110.

I have 2 of these at home and they are great. If they're ok and you do get set up with them, my advice is to never switch them off. They will happily stay on standby 24/7 and use very little electricity, but this will keep the heads from blocking as the printer does regular maintenace cycles in standby.

I use CityInkExpress inks and have had no problems with them.

You'll need an ICC profile for whatever ink/paper combination you have, otherwise your colours will be way off. This is essental for all sublimation printing, whatever the make of printer.

Thanks for the reply. What would they normally retail at ? I saw one on Amazon which was very expensive, but I didn't know if this was because of discontinuation and sometimes Amazon inflates prices .

The person is also selling heat press equipment but seems unable to show it set up and running, so again , i have a few questions as to whether something is not quite right.

I bought mine from CIE as a bundle: Printer, 4x100ml bottles of Fotorite sublimation ink, refillable cartridges and syringes, 100 sheets of sublimation paper, etc, for £150.

The second one was part of a private sale of a printer, mug press, and various mugs, money boxes etc. Luckily everything worked well and I've had them a couple of years now.

Are the printers boxed and unopened?

WOW! Just checked an ebay listing from CIE for the same bundle as mine and it's now £315! More than DOUBLE in a couple of years!

Here's the original listing in my ebay Purchase History ...

Hi, they are boxed and pictures look real eg: not packshot from elsewhere.
So, I am completely new to this idea so only just thinking about ideas but have another question, being complete novice, would appreciate your help if you have time.
My brother has photoshop and all his original designs,. the plan was I would print up, press and ship items. Will there be a problem him sending me image files to use on my printer eg: I haven't got photoshop. Maybe I need to research a bit more before delving in to a new project or can it be a straight forward business. We are not thinking high volume here, well not initially anyway.

The software you actually print from would need to have colour management facilities. Thus means that the software would handle the printing colours via what's known as an ICC profile. Most reputable ink suppliers would supply a profile with their inks, or you can pay a small fee to have someone make a one for you.

Not all graphics software allows use of ICC colour management. Photoshop does, as does Coreldraw, but you'd have to check if your software supported this. For sublimation it is essential to manage the colours. A print from a sublimation printer looks nothing like the image it produces when pressed onto an item.
