Re: Colour Issues

Post by mshaw3 »

I've put this in printers as I'm guessing it's this, but it could be anything. I've read about numerous issues with the colours not matching up in terms of what you see on screen and what is pressed, but mine seem to be getting worse. I've tried numerous things but I thought I'd put it out here incase I've missed something (probably!). I've done a few prints and mugs/bottles tonight and this is what I'm printing against what is being pressed...

Print v Press
Pink to red
Navy blue to dark blue
Light blue to blue
Light red to dark red
Grey to orange-tint

I've had my equipment for coming onto 2 years now so maybe an element in the mug press needs changing? But I question that theory because I get similar issues on the flat bed press. Or do you think I might need to change the ink? I've topped it up a couple of times but because I don't do this all the time I've had no need. Maybe the inks have gone out of date? I don't know. I've tried just about every time, temperature and pressure possible on the presses. I even recently went back and bought some ink express paper in case it was the different paper I got last time. I have all the ICC profiles loaded from Ink Experts - are there updates to these that I'm missing?! Getting a bit frustrated with the whole thing. Any help or advice on anything that perhaps I might have missed would be grateful. Thanks

How old 'are' the inks? Are you sure you have profiles set up and checked all settings? It can be something very simple, a box checked or not for example.

Any change in temp where you store everything?

I'm starting to wonder if it's the inks. It's coming up to 2 years since I bought the equipement including the inks. So roughly 21 months since I opened the bottles. I've topped up the inks in the printer a couple of times but I don't do massive amounts so that's all I've needed. Do you think that new inks would be a good idea? Is it easy to drain all the ink from the printer? It's an Epson ET-2750.

Settings wise I've been through it all and tried to troublehsoot using Ink Experts website and YouTube, and nothing seems to be the issue, but there clearly is.

Nothing changed storage wise, just in my office at home.

Sounds quite possible the inks are out of date, I've never seen a colour shift on Sublinova inks (You are using Sublinova?) but I have seen this on SG inks very quickly after the expiry date.

How much ink is left in the printer? You could syringe most of it out I guess.

Yeah they are the Sublinova inks and checking the date on the bottle it does say use by Sept 2022, which roughly ties into when the issues started actually. About 1/3 left in the printer. Thanks - I'll give this a go then and hopefully it fixes it.

Could well be the inks then, that's where I'd be starting. You may need to flush some through to clear the oder stuff, keep us updated.

I've used Sublinova which was years out of date (picked up very cheap on Ebay!) and didn't really have much issue with them.
I'd be checking the settings in Photoshop, the printer driver, and that the ICC profile is for that printer, inks and paper combination
