Roland announce the DTF version of the BN20. Probably a bit slow, but at least it is a start.

Probably time to take a serious look if Roland (and presumably/hopefully Mimaki soon) are getting involved.
The thing that has put me of has been the thought of buying a rebadged ODM machine from suppliers with little wide format experience.

Possibly. There is a guy in US who is converting Mimaki CJV 150 solvent printers. They already have the white ink circulation system so no real mechanical conversion needed. The smallest CJV 75cm is 'only £7K, whichis about 3k less than a 60cm rebadged model.

I guess the biggest issue is compatible inks carts and rip software.

My CJV 150 - 107 is out of warranty soon, so I am thinking of converting.

For rip it states it uses vw 6 which is what I’m already using.
I imagine it will just lay the colours the same way as if your printing a full colour image for black T-shirts. (White last)

Probably, getting something that the manufacturer endorses for use in the machine, with chips that it will recognise. Hopefully they will come with a good warranty.

Affording the electricity for the drier is another matter....

Now Mimaki join the party. Looks like a re puposed CJV150 - 75. Have they added a second head?
If that comes with a 24 month warranty it is probably a good way to go.

bn-20d as dtf is pointless in my opinion. for £7k ish is way too much. you print colour, for about a meter and no more, as it will hit the floor with wet inks. and then it sucks film back in and put white layer on top. pointless. you cant add the shaker as it prints in two passes.

I'm not sure the Mimaki will be much more - the solvent version of the CJV150-75 is less than £7000 including the cutting facility ( which has presumably been rempoved from the dtf machine).

I like the look of the new desktop twin head machine that Xpres and TMT are offering. Sheet fed but takes 40x50cm sheets, 1 litre ink packs. I am begining to think it will be easier and less cumbersome to print indivdual transfer sheets if the speed is fast enough.

A lot will depend on ink costs of machines using cartridges (Mimaki charge £90+vat for 440ml of their solvent ink so if dtf ink is similar then that will make costs too high for volume production). And also the length of warranty.
