The PRS/PPL/MCPS are greedy barstewards IMHO... Buch of gangsters quite frankly! Sure musicians need to be able to monetise their work; but this lot are just another symptom of rip-off Britain as their man interest appears to be self-sustainance!
You should see what these clowns want to licence music for videos! We almost-never use commercially avaialble music as it's usually cheaper to pay some kid with a synthesizer to write a custom piece and buy it out!
In this case Radio sells music; it's like being charged to put somone else's adverts up in the window of your shop.
Possible alternative... http://imsradio.co.uk/ims/ Won't suit everyone but it's an option.

What the **** is this country coming to, so let me get this right you can go anywhere with a radio and your fine you listen to it in your shop and you get done! So if im driving down the road with my radio turned up does that mean i need a licence?? What about cab drivers???
Just another reason why this country is going up the creek!

Techincally speaking, according to the law - if you have a ringtone of a signed artist and your phone rings and others on a bus can hear it - you could be liable for a fine! Whether you'll get one or not, no has been fined yet (to my knowledge) but, according to the law - you could!
You also may be suprised to know that cab drivers 'DO' have to pay for a licence! See the Guardian article below that gives more info
http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/musicbl ... tv-licenceI spoke to the PRS, to see if UK cab drivers have to pay for a license to play music, and was somewhat surprised to find out that they do. There's a fee of £28 a year.

Buy a Ipod or such like and headphones, should be safe then.
Ride it like you stole it shiny side up.
