What makes a good mug?

Used to but stock control was an issue for me also. Bearing in mind that the difference between source and resellers here is only about 3-8p it simply is not worth so much cash being tied up.

Price every time is number 1 for me. Of the few suppliers I would consider, all have a decent enough quality. Having got a few suppliers with a very similar mug, continuity is always good.

As a newbie, yet to start up properly, I'm looking for a supplier that can get hold of good quality well made mugs - having read some of the nightmares on here regarding different mugs in terms of tapering sides etc I would much rather pay a (slight!) premium safe in the knowledge the mugs are up to it. This would go for other equipment to, such as transfer paper, inks etc

Maybe when I am as proficient as some of the members on here I may experiment, but as a beginner you want to reduce the number of variables that could go wrong

The thing is that there's no incentive for any supplier to offer better mugs "at a slight premium" because 99% of people are guided by price. The supplier that sells premium priced mugs would go out of business because (i) very few people would buy from them, and (ii) those that do would go to a cheaper supplier at the drop of a hat as soon as they figure out the cheaper ones are good enough.

Over the last few years, more and more people have come into sublimation to do it "on the cheap" that suppliers have to cater for that cheapness. It's only business.

I believe this is why we lost TAMS.

Yep - understood! As I said, my preference would be trusted mug from trusted supplier, certainly when starting out, later on, who knows. Can I show my ignorance by asking what TAMS is/was?

TAMS was a supplier to the mug decoration industry many moons ago who manufactured the items in this country. They had the best range of colours for screen printing and the sublimation white mugs were the best. Unfortunately they went out of business sometime ago now.
