I have some of the El Grande 15 oz mugs and they are marked as Orca coating, however I am struggling to get a crisp finish to text. Now I have associated this with cheap mugs in the past and / or too much pressure.
This is both from my wide format epson printer and from the small ricoh.
So has anybody else had experience of Orca coatings and how did you get on?

Re: Orca coating Blurred image
What time and temp did you use? Orca coated mugs are usually very high quality. You can get a bad batch that needs a lower temp and also some importers who might use an Orca coating might push their cost down by cutting corners. Orca might be great with one supplier then h another, but that is the same for any product/coating.

Hi Andrew I have tried a few variations of temperature / pressure. I guess I'll persevere or try a batch from another supplier.

Hi Janners
Who is the supplier and what do they have to say about the problem? Its possible that they know about a faulty coating batch but have no way of knowing how many cases were affected and where they went to, or are just keeping quiet and dealing with the complaints as they arise rather than mailing out to all of their customers.
Do they publish time/temp figures for the El Grande mugs - and is that what you used?
I would have expected the pressure to be the same as any other mug and maybe a slightly longer time at the same temperature.
Is the blurring the same all over the mug - top to bottom AND handle to handle or is it patchy? Might be worth conjuring up a print of a fine black grid - 0.5mm lines on a 2mm grid pitch - bit of a faff but when you press it you are going to see exactly where the blurring is. I'd also stick a few 10mm solid black squares in each corner, middle of the mug and top and bottom - so you can see if you really are getting a good black. If its not blurred all over I'd start to suspect uneven pressure or an uneven temp, ie an iffy heater blanket. Just make sure that you give the EG a good pre warm as its going to lose heat much faster than a durham - bigger base to heat up and a bigger internal surface to dissipate heat from.
Just my ten pennoth

Hi Arthur.
That is pretty much my route when testing mugs etc.
It is the first time I have used (knowingly) orca coated mugs, and was wondering if it was the coating. However I can now say that it isn't every mug, in fact it is an odd rogue mug.
