I meant a Chinese source to get them for a similar price as the 10oz silicone wraps (£2.50)

if you find you do need a 2nd oven shelf, have a word with your local tip, as most are a universal size, soak overnight in oven pride to remove all grease/residue

wanting to cut out a section of the worktop aand have a wire mesh/grill to put theee mugs on to cool, with a fan beneath blowing air up through them to cool them quicker, so may get more cooker shelves or cooling racks for this

Although advertised as one shelf, it thankfully came with two.
Did our first run of 36 for another designer (not even our own work got to go first!) who's also based at the arts centre we set up in town. Very pleased with the results, colours strong and vibrant and even right to the edges and top/bottom.
Set oven to 200 not got a thermometer to check what temp it actually is yet, leaving in for 10 minutes had a few patches on the mugs not print correctly, so next load I did for 12 minutes and they were spot on.
So, need to buy oven thermometer, preferably digital, and a countdown timer thingy.

(Epson 9600 in behind the workbench, which printed the transfers, using InkTec transfer papers and their Sublinova Smart inks, with our own custom ICC profiling.)

Hi, I am very new to this and am in the process of gathering information regarding equipment/suppliers and so on. Can this really do what you say it does ? if so why would I buy a mug press? to say I am confused is an understatement

it's economy of scale, how many mugs do you want/need to make per hour, how much electricity do you want to use per mug? how much space do you have?
1 mug press is maybe 400-500 watts, an oven about 2500-3000 watts
1 press will do a mug in 3 minutes, an oven, 24 mugs in 12 minutes
therefore the oven equivalent is 2 minutes per mug, but at only 125 watts.
I'm estimating the 24 mugs at a time til all the wraps from China arrive, as I reckon I can squeeze more in there.
The economy of using the oven only works if it's full each time you use it.
It may sound like only saving a minute per mug, but those minutes quickly add up to hours saved across a few hundred mugs.
You can start with smaller table top ovens though.

Thanks for that, well explained. So a mug press it is until I reach the happy stage that this time and quantity factor comes into it, then it is a no brainer. Thanks again I am impressed.

Should have also mentioned that I am in the process of refurbishing my workshop, it is just behind my house and is made of stone, I already have a few socket points but have booked an electrician to fit more, he may as well put a cooker point in now rather than have the mess later when I have everything in place. Thanks again.
