I think the results from Bestsub look good and can't be replicated using OKI white (to the best of my knowledge...), just depends what you want. OKIW is a big investment but results are amazing and you can use any mug that will fit into the press, Tesco black ones are very popular !.

Ok, a quick Google has provided info from paper manufacturers and it seems as simple as we had hoped. Exactly the same idea as sublimation but using laser toner and non sublimation substrates. See here

multi - LASER - sub is a totally, completely, utterly, different thing. Good, - but different!

A few things....

Firstly, the BestSub foil process is not dishwasher proof. You may well be able to use any mug (not sure on that), but you can also use any mug with The Magic Touch system, you will still get the same result and it will still be unsuitable for washing.

However I did mention that I saw at TMT's offices a system for foiling on a mug. The ones I saw on Nathan's desk were absolutely stunning and I think add a new dimension to personalised products. This was using the white OKI, the paper I am not sure on.

I know it is not available yet because they are still testing the durability. TMT will only release it once they know the product is dishwasher proof which for some suppliers is more important than being the first to announce

In my opinion, the OKI system is a very small investment, but I suppose on how serious you are about the business and whether its a sideline or not.

Very durable. Here is a small trick to help its durability. This also applies to the TMT paper for mugs and ceramics. Use a heat gun on it for a few seconds. Not too much heat but just enough to give it a "shine" . This, I found, helps to bond it to the mug just like a mug in a ceramic oven.

That's super advice. Another reason for us to buy a heat gun which we've been pondering on for a while (for packaging purposes).

alternative to heat gun if using a halogen oven is to put it back in to bake for a while

Just an update to say we are being sent gold and silver paper samples so look forward to trying them out. ALSO Tesco has a voucher on their web site, wayupnorth, for £10 off when you spend £40 on certain homeware items which has basically brought mug price down from 75p to 56p!!!

Update - We got hold of some of this metallic paper and some regular mugs (thank you Tesco!) and this is our very first one done just now. Design a bit naff and too small but works a treat just like Forever say. Print onto BLACK toner and press at 160c for 180s. Will put in a few dishwasher cycles to see if it will be ok or if handwashing advisable.
