It depends what the RAM is used for. In a page printer (like a laser), the printer needs to take the whole page on board before it can print. The more RAM it has, the more complex (and higher resolution) the page can be. In that situation, 16MB would be barely enough and 128MB would be better. In a line printer (like an inkjet), the printer only needs enough memory for one line at a time so the amount of RAM required is much less. Additionally, more memory on board a network printer means it doesn't need to be constantly fed by a computer - thus freeing up your computer much quicker.
