Ive always wondered how they get your email, it cant just be blanket style because ive had one within days of new email/paypal/ebay account, so somewhere between them there has to be a security breach of some kind.

Webmailing companies pay hundreds of thousands every year for email addresses. The irony is that "most" people, who are not that savvy with Phishing/hacking/dupe accounts etc, usually use their own regular email account to open up an ebay or PayPal account. When this email account is linked to all your personal stuff like banking details etc... it can become your worst nightmare when the "naughties" have your details. Now, some dubious characters also disguise themselves as webmailers and buy email lists from other companies. This is quite legal for marketing purposes but if the list is in the wrong hands... Hacking/Phishing etc is the result. Another way to check if an email is from who it says it is, is to hover your mouse over the "Sender" before opening the mail and you will see the address that it came from. If it doesnt match the sender... dont open it. (Works for Hotmail). Another way scammers get hold of your email address is by generating a listt of random mails from A-Z. So for example... adam@gmail, adam1@gmail, adam12@gmail etc etc. They hire a server for a few dollars a month, set up their auto mailing function and send to thousands of random addresses. The sad thing is.... at least a handful of those addresses are actually being used by people with PayPal accounts. I will try and post a PayPal page with links, to show you how easy it is to fool people. ... (By-the-way... Im not a scammer, I just know a few script coders, programmers etc!)

Within 24 hours of ordering with Artscow.com a couple of years ago my account details were hacked...yes I'd been lazy and it was an old email address I'd used for ages but I've also had my Paypal account for years so got too relaxed with changing things.....thankfully Paypal sent me an email to say that I'd changed my details straight away....I of course immediately phoned and it was all sorted out and all user ids and passwords were changed but it could have been a close one!!! Not saying it was Artscow but it was very coincidental!!!

Arko - I haven't clicked your link, but I don't think you should be putting this on the forum - it's fraud.

PS: The link in question has now been deleted - that's why this thread doesn't make sense anymore

FairyD... would you just help me demonstrate the above example by clicking the link and filling out the email and password with any details that come to you. I will then reveal what you typed in.

John... I just mentioned in the post above that this is an example... I also put that I do NOT want anyone to put real details into the password boxes. But if Justin agrees with you, thats ok. I will personally take it down. And the link on my page will also be deleted. I can assure you I am in no way dishonest. Its a way of making people aware what to look for when clicking hidden URL links..

There are other ways to explain how this con works, rather than putting a fake paypal page, live on the internet, with links coming from this site.

Ok... as you wish, I dont wish to ruffle any feathers... as you know, these links will only redirect from my site and no-where else. And then.... it was gone... Voila!
