Thank you everyone for the help. I will purchase some decent sublimation paper today and try Justins method for mug sublimation.

I purchased some TexPrintXP paper and using Justins method the results are 100% better. However I'm having a few problerms, skin tones on the mugs looking very light compared to the file in photoshop. Also after I remove the cup form the press placing it in warm water there is a white residue that appears once the cup starts to dry. Please see the links below, has anyone else had this problem?

Hi Sean

There are those that are for dipping in water and those that are not. Personally I am a non dipper! Try taking the mug out of the press and peeling the paper straight away. Paper normally only sticks if you are over cooking so perhaps knock the temperature down a tad (5-10 degrees).

With regards to the skin tones, I suspect a proper icc profile will sort this out. Paul (a member on here) will be able to help with that, however I think he needs a print out from your printer so it may take a while to get here!

If you intend to continue using your Korean inks, you may find it a wise investment to get yourself your own profiling device. That way you can create a new profile whenever you need to (if you get a new batch of inks in, if the inks get old, if you change printers, etc), and/or at any time you feel the colours are no longer accurate.

Having Paul create the profiles will ensure you get accurate ones but, if you're going to have to wait every time you need a new profile, you may find it frustrating.

In the long term, you'd be better served to have such a device on-hand.

I had this issue in the days when I did colour-change mugs. The residue would invariably just "wipe off" (99% of the time) but it was odd that it only occurred on those mugs, and not on any mug with the dishwasher-safe coatings (RN, Orca, etc). Are you using mugs with a decent coating? If so, then it's probably unrelated to the issue I experienced.

JSR is right and has actually jogged a few things in my memory.

For example I remember buying a batch of really cheap mugs from someone. They were awful and did not last 1 wash. I also had problems with paper sticking and thinking about it now it was probably all to do with the quality of the coating.

Also, if I try and sublimate something that has a high polymer content but not designed for sublimation I do get paper sticking on some items.

Did you buy the mugs from a reputable supplier? If not I would recommend doing so as this will eliminate the fault being a dodgy mug.

I had this issue on soft coating too!
but in your case i would just heat your press up and stick mug in for 240sec. medium pressure. and then you should see if is less or not.
