We'd want an Adkins Alpha Mk6 or similar, or maybe a roller press

...For a more standard press, we love the PressMech A3 press ... (this after using Jarin, Adkins, and Insta, along with a selection of expensive and cheap Chinese models.)

Beta Major for me but that is probably because I have had Adkins in the past and have never used a Hotronic. If it was between those two I think for me it would probably be price. However, I think there are more Adkins resellers than Hotronic. This is a very very slight advantage should anything ever go wrong as you have more options for sourcing parts etc. As mentioned this is a very small advantage as they are both very good machines.

Thanks Sociagiraffe I'm going to Focus this weekend so I can talk to express. The work I have in mind for the press is photographs onto Chromaluxe nothing else, so would-these type of presses be over the top......

Hi Johnfrancis

Having used both really expensive ones and cheap ones there really is not a huge difference in the actual pressing. It is probably more important to figure out if you need a swing away or a clam shell. People on here that press Chomaluxe will be able to advise you on that as I have never used it.

The real difference is in the build quality.

Think of it like purchasing a car. You can purchase a Skoda or a Rolls Royce. Both will do the same thing in that they will get you from A to B. In theory the Rolls will last considerably longer than the Skoda but will cost you a lot more.

Adkins and co are designed to be absolutely hammered all day everyday. If this is a new venture I personally would recommend a cheaper press from a reputable supplier. If the business takes off then you can look into getting a better heat press. At least then your will also have a back up press should anything go wrong. You will aos have much more personal experience as to what your exact requirements are.

I use this Adkins model but mine is a slightly older version which I personally prefer. Adkins are excellent but if I was buying new right now I'd probably give the Hotronix a shot. You don't need to be spending this much but if you have the budget it'll serve you well for many years.
