thanks,
I still do some mugs, but the best thing you can buy is a flat press, as you will already have all the equipment eg printer, inks, paper, which opens up your business to a whole new client, you can do phone cases, slates, mouse mats, t-shirts, hoodies, etc etc, so dont go into it with just the one item on your mind as not many people make it on mugs alone.

Thanks for the advice, Dave. Like I said, if I get anywhere with the mugs I will invest in a flat press later on. It's just that I've sourced a mug press which is half the price of any entry level flat press that I can find, and it's so cheap that even if things don't work out, it's something which I would be prepared to keep for personal use (for Christmas prezzies and so on), so I've nothing to lose, really. The other thing is, when I went for my interview earlier in the week, 90% of the ideas I showed to my would-be employers were for mugs and it would be nice just to use these and get them out of the way, so to speak. However, having said that, several of my ideas involved printing artwork onto the base of the mug, something which a conventional mug press wouldn't allow for. Is this something which a flat press would enable me to do?
