Yes it has an idle and a high and a countdown. Turn it on - remembers settings from last time...when it reaches idle it beeps and I put mug in....if I dont do it straight away it cools down a few degrees then warms back again and repeats...once mug placed I press another button and it warms up to high and starts countdown. When it finishes the beep is continuous and I guess that's because I need to take it out straight way to avoid over cooking (Im guessing the "jacket" retains heat and continues to bake it). The process I have followed after baking is to place the mug gently still with paper in a bowl of warm water. I dont know if it's helping or not...it certainly helps to cool it down quicker

Alan I just did another 6 mugs without pre-heating any of them and they were all fine. Full length images do not fade anywhere and blacks are nice and crisp and even (

) ...and dark

Look good, your press has the same mode of operation as mine, control box looks the same as well. It doesn't take much searching on the web to see what seems the same press sold by a number vendors, all sharing the same chassis and each vendor claiming that the electrics are bespoke to them. I would love to know truth on these presses (are they the same) prices can vary considerably and it can all be academic depending on the mugs - tapering or not.
