talking about wireless.....this brother 5910dw is obviously wireless.....my signal has to go through a massive, thick stone wall to my router...works perfectly...no drop outs and instant printing when i click the send/print button...
But gonna be moving everything up to the office upstairs when rest of the furniture arrives anyway
Unless you got really thick, multiple walls, or an old router....your wireless should perform flawlessly....


but each to there own guys...

technology has come a long way in 15yrs printer wise !

I know what you mean. With printers, it's forever a case of "the grass is always greener...". We wouldn't need to keep trying so many out if Sawgrass commissioned someone to make a printer designed for their inks.

More expensive, but larger cartridges (17ml) at long last. Looks like a replacement for the R1800/1900. It has wireless and Ethernet, so keeping one off the cheaper model was clearly a marketing decision. Epson are nuts sometimes. :rolleyes:

I did look at the R2000, not sure how it would work with regards to the different blacks....maybe just subli black in each I guess....also uses the gloss optimiser, not sure how that would work with subli.

Yes, I'd expect so. When Sawgrass tried to convince us that the R1800 was going to replace the 1290S, they released a system with two of the same blacks (even though only one would ever be used) and cleaning fluid where the gloss optimiser would be. A typical example of gouging the customer. It's like the current models that have two black cartridges - there's absolutely no need to Sawgrass to include twice the quantity of black ink in the set, and they clearly only do it to bump up the price. Designed for pigment ink as it is, there are also no "light" inks.

Effectively, these printers are 4-ink printers when used for dye-sub because the "Photo Black" isn't used, the "Cleaning Solution" isn't used, and the gamut-expanding colours (Red, Blue, or Orange depending on variant) are hardly used. You're only ever really using CMYK. For pigment printing, the 8-ink solution is the bees knees but for sublimation it was always a case of putting a square peg in a round hole.

That said, maybe the larger cartridges means that Epson are finally starting to figure out that they don't need to fit thimble-sized cartridges to these printers. It's not like the ink is any cheaper. In OEM terms, they're forever charging £1/ml. If it's not £10 for 10ml, it's £17 for 17ml, so it's no skin off their nose if they fit larger cartridges in the things is it?
