not good publicity for Richos is it.

thats what i was thinking Dave...supposedly its to do with the way the Ricoh loads the paper 'up and over', whereas the Epsons don't apparently. It's only started happening recently for me that i've noticed though.

Kevin - if, until you are ready to buy an Epson, you have some specific block-colour images that are showing banding on the Ricoh 3110, you could always send us the graphic files and we can print them for you here on our own Epsons - you have Dan's contact.

To be objective, only a small percentage of Ricoh printers show this banding effect ( caused by slight juddering in the paper feed) and it only shows on block colours - 90% of users do not see any defect in their printing. However, because it is a hardware problem, there is no definitive solution, although precise head alignment can alleviate it to a certain extent.

Does this occur with the Ricoh A3 printer as well?

This concerns me tbh. I have the Ricoh 7100 which has shown signs of the same problem. When I checked head alignments etc. everything looked 100%. Sending same printouts to my supplier which were forwarded to Sawgrass I was told that 3 of the settings were out. I corrected the settings and the problem has now gone but I'm getting the impression from this post that the problem still exists but I've just alleviated it enough not to show on these prints? Also, this means that 10 out of every 100 printers will suffer the same problem? Pretty poor odds?

Justin , my estimate iwas just a generalisation, and should not be taken as statistical - we have no real visibility, and 100s of Ricohs are sold and used for sublimation with no problems at all. Even in the rare cases where this banding occurs, it is really only visible in certain spot-colour prints. So let's not overinflate something which is really only an incidental occurence. We may be only talking about 1% of users seeing the problem - so let's not scare-monger, and if I over-estimated, I retract!
