MDP mug press. Read here owner review and pics.
Re: MDP mug press. Read here owner review and pics.
Timer didn't start, wasn't sure if I managed to set temp or time correctly, these presses are a bit odd to set up, temp seems to cycle up and down and during press temp drops away a fair bit to 150's. I scrabbled for me phone on the first one as the timer didn't start to then do a guess on how long it had been and tried to emulated 180 secs. Nothing to loose but a mug I figured but on looking at it that one turned out quite good. Thought what a doddle and on next two thought I'd sussed putting the mug when in when the temp was at top of cycle (say 187) and the timer would worked on clamping then, I'd preheated mug a bit in there first, not close to bottom printing so didn't warp base and unwrapped them on removal but found they weren't as sharp and the first one! Might have twiddles the pressure back so will turn it in a tad for next one! EDIT more pressure wasn't better, maybe touch worse.

Don't preheat the mug in the press.mr-gobby;152246 wrote:Timer didn't start, wasn't sure if I managed to set temp or time correctly, these presses are a bit odd to set up, temp seems to cycle up and down and during press temp drops away a fair bit to 150's. Get it to room temp either by warm water and dry or by a tapenyaki grill set to a low temp, but enough to warm the base.
180c for 180s is more than enough. Much more and you will blur the print.

I started with 180 by 180 on the first trial run where I wasn't sure id sucessfully set the temp and timer and where the timer didn't start but I fluked the best one with a time guess. Then reread this thread and thought it was 185 185 being recommend and did a 180 185 too, I got a comparatively less well defined prints (if being fussy compared next to first one) with very slightly lighter colour. Have left some mugs out overnight to the match room (has UFH built into slab so sat on floor
will try a 180 180, after hearing the click when its at temp an it's rising above the 180 but before it starts to drop again. Does anyone's also show the reading drop away into 150's before rising back up during the whole process, are you still dunking the mugs MrTJ, I used to when air frying but on these just whipped the paper off them after removal. I wonder if with a wrap on if the paper is less likely to move and cause a disturbance. I tape both sides and paper is pretty taught but in a wrap it can't move and dunking them totally stops the process instantly

The fluctuation in temperature was a concern for me - obviously no two mugs get exactly the same pressing when the temperature guage is showing such random temperatures
The results for the most part are pretty good though at 180 / 180 - I just haven't managed to get a fool proof method for top to bottom black yet
I've been taking the paper off straight away and dunking in hottish water

I still dunk them in hot tap water.
I see people using tonnes of tape I use two short strips and the press holds the paper in place.
also when you put the mug in the mug press it will suck the heat from the blanket so you will see a drop in temp.
This is why I have set it to my time and temps as it works for me.
there will be a slight variation in temp form machine to machine so you need to take this into account also.
A full black isn’t impossible but getting it right everytime is a task I wouldn’t like to undertake.

When I get a minute I’ll do a short video from start to finish
Re: MDP mug press. Read here owner review and pics.
Hi guys, I’m back with another question about this press. I’ve just changed the blanket about 50 or so mugs ago and for the past few days I’ve noticed a strange fluctuation in the temperature shown when it’s heating up. I have it set to 185c and often when it heats up and reaches a certain temp, say 175 it suddenly starts dropping the temp down to 170, then goes back up to 175, then drops to 170 again and then all of a sudden jumps to 195-200c.
I was wondering if anyone else ever had this? I’m not sure what’s at fault here, the press or the blanket.
Thanks for any help!

if it’s mdp give them a buzz. It sounds like the temp sensor in the blanket is a little temperamental.
To be honest as long as the mug hits 180 and it’s in for the destined time it will be fine.

Thank you! Yes, it’s from MDP. I’ll give them a call next week.

Added a little more info and taping info.
just because you all seem to waste so much tape.
