what paper were you using Paul?

Just received my copy of printwear and promotion and an article on Listawood states:

Their exclusive Duraglaze Photomug is the only 100% dishwasher proof mug in Europe;

That's a hell of a claim!

Somewhat foolhardy IMHO if complaints reach the Advertsing Standards Authority and Trading Standards...

What can they prove their mugs withstand that others' don't? - They have the lab reports I presume? Odd that they don't seem to have published them; or have I missed something?

I think the claim is more laughable due to the fact on which Martin mentioned that Duraglaze is just their own name for RN which is widely available to everyone.

Not just hell of a claim but hell of a lie!

Quite so Andrew... Rather causes me to form the opinion that the overall integrity of this firm might be somewhat questionable.

I wonder how many other people are going to become disillusioned with Listawood. They were once highly-respected, but these continuing false claims will do nothing more than damage their reputation in the long run.

I still don't think Listawood care about the blanks market even though they have done up their site up. They have such a big printing business and they are still expanding the products and print methods used that the trade blanks supply is tiny to them.

Makes you wonder why they need to bother with false claims, then.

On their printing site, they sell many mugs and designs that they don't sell as blanks - including colour mugs (presumably screen printed or something). As they don't say that all their mugs are Duraglaze, they're effectively saying that any that aren't Duraglaze are rubbish. That will surely affect their sales of all those non-Duraglaze mugs.

Incidentally, their descriptions for the Duraglaze ones says -

Our Duraglaze PhotoMugs are the only 100% dishwasher proof sublimation mugs in Europe; independently tested to over 1,000 washes! This gives you double the value of the nearest alternative and will last ten times as long as most other PhotoMugs on the market.

So they've consigned all other mug coatings - including RN coatings - to the virtual skip of printed mugs. That's nice of them.

If I was a supplier of blank mugs, I'd be getting set to sue them. Unless those suppliers of RN, Orca, Rhino, and whatever, agree with Listawood's assertions, that is.

There is something each and every one of us can do, either as customers or suppliers to have the matter addressed. Complain to the ASA.

Personally I suspect this claim may be false. And the knock-on effect of it is potentially to damage competition in the market place such that a sector of the market might be 'cornered'; but not via the usual legitimate mechanisms of balancing quality/price/service...

That in turn could lead to a rise in material costs for we customers...

It's not healthy business practice,and it's not right.

The majority of their customers are trade suppliers in the promo industry so know that screen printed mugs are mostly dishwasher proof as standard. It's the photo mugs where they have done a very good job convincing everyone that they are top on coating and it has worked in that industry regardless if they are lies. It does seem to be a case of you can make any claim you want and with it being a niche market your fairly safe from any comeback.
