Hi, can anyone shed any light on copyright images. I came across this item on Etsy
https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/2044236 ... e_active_1
there is no mention of Harry Potter but I'm sure this wouldn't be allowed on mugs etc.

You may get away with it in UK under the recent parody law, but I'd be wary. Do you have legal cover as part of your business insurance?

Yes I have legal insurance. To be honest I think it's too risky
Thanks Pisquee

The artist who created those pictures hasn't breached anyones copyright, its intellectual property trademarks where you might run into problems.

Thanks Galerion.
I thought it was odd because she is selling a licence to be able to use it.

If you like that style of images its worth looking up the artist website and looking for their authorized seller list, looking at the price of that image its actually quite expensive compared to what I have paid in the past for that kind of thing it should be around 75p-£1 for the licence.

She is claiming to be the artist.
Do you know of anywhere on the www where unknown graphic artists are looking to get their work noticed. It doesn't matter what you type in to google it always seems to bring up the same sites ( iStock, etc etc). We do design our own stuff but it does take a while and some people aren't prepared to wait for the design to be done. I'm certainly not paying the prices some of the premium sites charge.

Cheryl Seslar Alice Smith Trina Walker (Trina Clark) authorized sellers

There are alot more sites that sell them but that should get you started, alice's site isn't working for me atm but worth checking out when it is. Make sure you have a good read of how they can and can not be used, dollargraphics have a good section on that.

There is no mention of Harry Potter because that would be a trademark infringement and her listing would be removed and she risks being bankrupted. If you bought those images for only £10 they look very good quality. But how are you going to sell your mugs without calling them Harry Potter mugs?
