I'm sure most of you are avid buyers from Graphic River already for client mock-ups but in case anyone is needing to provide a digital mock-up of an enamel mug then get yourself a Photoshop Smart Object for a few dollars:

By the look of the pictures then it seems possible. As for suppliers providing mock-ups then I haven't come across any that do apart from Unisub who have superb photos of their products in high res (blank and printed) for download.

I model my own mugs and render (raytrace) them with my designs. This is my model of the 12oz spoon-mug. I mean ok, it's not perfect, but good enough for product shots and thumbnails and I have sold a few. I find having my own 3D models allows me much more scope for viewing angles etc.

Ohhh better than my attempts in photoshop! Any pointers where to work out how to do this would be awesomely welcome.

Haha! I've been into 3D modelling for a number of years now, so something like a mug is not much problem. I usually photograph the mug to give top- and side-views as a backdrop in my modelling program (Rhino 5). I draw half the outline then spin it through 360 degrees to form the mug. The handles are a bit trickier. I usual start with a plane curve the shape of the handle and use an ellipse as the cross section and sweep it along the curve. A bit tweaking in Rhino's Cage Editor moulds it to shape. The final model is arranged and rendered in Keyshot 4.

There are many free modellers on the net, some with renderers, and there are many free stand-alone renderers too, so the technique is available to anyone who doesn't mind a bit of a learning curve.

Sticking to a mugs, here's something I modelled in free modelling software. Took no time at all. The ridges down the sides of the mugs weren't modelled, they are simply added in the raytracer with a 'bump map.' The mug sides are actually smooth as can be seen in the jug variation below.

As a side issue, where are people getting their enamel mugs from?

£2.00 a unit seems a bit pricey to me.
