I know this is a "how long is a piece of string" kind of question but we are a husband and wife team, we will have an A4 printer and a single mug press to start with so how many mugs would be a sensible estimate that we could print day in day out with this set up.
20, 50, 100?
What do you think?

You would want at least another press to get any volume going. You will have to wait 3 minutes every time you want to print a single mug.

Thanks Gary
We will get another press as soon as we start producing any sort of volume but at the moment I am just trying to convince someone of the potential of the idea at the moment.
One proposal that I am putting forward to them relies on us being able to produce 36 mugs a day on average.
Is this practical with a single press set up with two of us working?

36 is easy to do in a day.

You'll be amazed the difference a second press makes.

A second mug press is a definite as Justin says if only as a back-up if the first one has issues. As for how many a day depends on what you are printing. If you are doing personalised mugs where every one is different then you are probably looking to spend 20 mins at least per mug. This includes communication with the client, administration, packaging, printing and dispatch (posting). If you are doing mass production of a design then indeed you would be looking at around 15 per hour with one press.

1 press should comfortably produce over 100 an 8 hour day. This will be the bottle neck. The printer/ cutting and taping of mug will be easy. 1 person can run 4 or 5 presses and keep them very busy. Upto 500 mugs can be produced depending on other factors such as design.

As above I would deffo get a 2nd press. Once you and your wife get into the swing of things its suprising how much time you spend doing nothing.

Deffo a second press, not just to produce twice as much but as a spare just in case one fails as said already.
Just to give an idea > I had a small order of 40 mugs a few weeks ago (don't do many mugs to be honest) started them at 4.30 and by 7 they were all boxed up and ready to send out, with one press....
